What makes your team, product and purpose so darn special? What will you gain from joining us?
We help practices go hybrid with AI-powered beautiful software. Anywhere clinicians make decisions, Heidi lives to support them. This program is what I wanted as a doctor learning about applied medical AI, venture-backed tech, interesting research and direct patient impact with a live product.

What is Heidi

We are on a mission to eliminate missed diagnosis. To do it we help practices go hybrid with AI-powered beautiful software.

In just one year we’ve created a clinical decision support platform that helps GP practices deliver high-quality primary care and patient experience. Supported by Heidi's AI, we automatically draft notes, provide a second opinion to assist in clinical decision-making and automate preventative follow-up with gold-standard guidelines. Blackbird Ventures, who invested in us, puts us among the most innovative healthcare companies in their portfolio.

Heidi's Knowledge Graph

The medical knowledge graph, or MKG, is the brain behind Heidi. It is an AI algorithm developed by clinicians which is built on a sophisticated and continuously growing repository of medical knowledge. The medical knowledge team is responsible for constructing and training hundreds of medical conditions and teasing out their relevant symptoms, features, risk factors, signs and demographics from evidence-based sources and representing them in the semantic complexities of our MKG.

Job Description

We are looking for a medical student or doctor to lead our Medical Knowledge Engineering (MKE) team in a full-time permanent capacity at Heidi.

This can be for a year stint away from clinical medicine or indefinitely, we're flexible on the duration of the role but it has to be full-time during business hours.

You will get a once-in-a-lifetime non-clinical experience at a venture-backed tech company operating at the frontier of health and technology in primary care. You will also oversee the clinical components of Heidi both from the lens of a patient and a medical professional.

The role involves close collaboration with the Engineering, Product and Design teams to create new features and solve problems in the medical knowledge parts of the Heidi platform. As part of the testing process, you will have the opportunity to help design and execute on research (cohort studies, trials etc.) that will be used to validate Heidi as one of the world's best medical diagnostic AI systems. In this position, you will make critical decisions that shape the MKG and our AI development to replicate the clinical decision-making process of the world's best doctors.

In your role, you will have the rare opportunity to experience the life of a doctor at a tech company including software development, fierce product development at velocity and real innovation that hits our patients every day. You'll provide regular updates and recommendations to our senior leadership team and we will be there to support, mentor and guide you as you immerse yourself in one of Australia’s leading startups!

Can you verbalise, conceptualise and actualise the complexities of clinical reasoning?

Are you ready to learn the engineering concepts necessary to work at the intersection of AI and medicine?

Do you believe that you can help reduce the rates of missed and delayed diagnoses in the world?

Are you getting excited 🤯 reading this?

Then, we need you!

What you will do

  • Identify key areas for improvement in the MKG and devise plans to make the improvements in a multi-disciplinary manner across the teams at Heidi.
  • Build an in-depth understanding of the medical knowledge that supports the MKG and utilise this to diagnose and fix relevant issues that arise.
  • Engage critically in testing Heidi, both through internal and external validation of the product to create an incredible patient and clinician experience.
  • Opportunity to lead, design and execute research (potentially in conjunction with academic institutions) utilised for the purpose of product validation
  • Contribute to compliance requirements where relevant, including contribution to the documentation of clinical validity and clinical reasoning processes.

  • Recent experience working in clinical medicine - there is no preference for any particular duration of clinical practice/experience.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills – an analytical, innovative, and creative mindset
  • Clinical research experience, particularly with regard to clinical trials is favourable.
  • A leader who can motivate and direct a team, with excellent delegation and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to be self-directed and be an independent contributor to the team

  • Aptitude to grasp new concepts, particularly in relation to data science and machine learning

Perks of being our MK Lead

  • We match the doctors in training salary levels (earn the same as if you were in the hospital)
  • Get equity in a high-growth startup on the ground floor
  • Flexible hybrid work environment (you can work in-person or remote, up to you), if you're remote we'll fly you to our office periodically
  • A rare non-clinical opportunity where your work will lead to an immediate impact on the patients we serve, you won't be a cog in the machine, you are the machine at Heidi

What do we believe in

We create unconventional solutions to difficult problems and we build them fast. We want you to set impossible goals and make them happen, think of landing a rocket but the medical version.

You'll be surrounded by a world-class team of engineers, medicos and designers to do your best work, inspired by our shared beliefs:

  • We design user experiences filled with joy and ship them fast
